I can’t think of a subject matter of less interest to me and a movie I’m anticipating more than this. Darren Aronofsky managed to pull performances out of Rachel Weisz and Hugh Jackman (in The Fountain) which I didn’t think were possible, and the score here by longtime collaborator Clint Mansell sounds spectacular and fragile.
I’m eager to read the “more later” with which you tease.

Well, I’ve already seen it at a screening, but they have these very strict no-talking requirements, so I’m holding out until it actually opens. The other interesting point is that the screenwriter, Rob Siegel, is sort of a pal of mine, so I’ve had a particularly good time watching the movie’s rise to great acclaim. It’s a lot of fun.

I, too, get sucked into the cyclonic pull of a good movie score every time. Wrestling doesn’t interest me (nor do strippers, as a rule), but this movie looks terrific. Thanks for putting it on my radar.

I wanted to second/third/whatever that you should see this movie. I saw it at a screening with both Darren Aronofsky and Marisa Tomei (who, incidentally, is so freakin’ TINY!) and heard some funny behind-the-scenes stuff that now, given Linda’s warning, I don’t want to mention. But once it opens I’ll come back and spill.
Seriously, this movie is good. It’s sad too though, so if you’re looking for upbeat, look elsewhere. My final verdict on the film is it is good and I’m glad I watched it, but it left me kind of wrecked so I doubt I could watch it again.

Wow. After 10 seconds I thought, “Are you kidding me? This looks SO bad!” Then I kept watching. and dammit I want to see this movie. A little “Rocky V”, a little “Million Dollar Baby” (maybe?), a little “The Champ” … very intriguing.

I love to be intrigued by something I would normally have no interest in! This film teaser has me intrigued….and surprised!
Thanks for sharing it!

A friend of mine sent his book on the 100 best sports movies of all time in to the publisher yesterday. I told him it was too bad, because I’d heard so much about The Wrestler and it would miss the book. He said they (he and his co-author) had left space for this film. From all they’ve heard, they think it may make top 30. And that’s solely on the buzz, he hasn’t seen a screening yet. Hope it’s worth the hype.
